Contenders for being the first LA punk rockers, The Germs were by far one of the most interesting punks bands out there. Often overshadowed today by lead singer, Darby Crash, drug fueled suicidal desires, the music is still hard to argue with. Everytime I press play I feel like i'm trying to play catch up to the ferocious playing demonstrated through utter perfection by the bandmates. The music is fierce, yet catchy as hell, which makes it impossible to resist. Each song is a punk classic and represents a time when chaos and noise were much more important than success. Avoid all the "live fast, die young" rock 'n' roll myths that surround this band and just listen to the music - which is all purely tremendous (plus, the cover is pretty classic as well).
